I teach first grade and am wanting to start teaching writers workshop…help!!?
I have heard a lot about it and how good it is just don’t know where to start. I wish someone had like a step by step do this day 1, day 2, etc. Can anyone help?
I’m actually planning on using writing workshop this year and have been researching it. You won’t necessarily find day 1, day 2, step-by-step, but there are lots of great resources that will help you. Lucy Calkins is one of the “big names” in workshop, and she’s an elementary teacher. Her book is _The Art of Teaching Writing_. _Writing Workshop: The Essential Guide_ by Ralph Fletcher and JoAnn Portalup is an excellent resource for the basics of getting started. You should also try _The Writing Workshop: Working Through the Hard Parts (And They’re All Hard Parts)_ by Katie Ray Wood.
Donald Graves is one of the pioneers of writing workshop, however, I’ve geared more of my research to Nancie Atwell, who is a middle school teacher.
Try the following two publishing companies. They’re publishers of all kinds of literature resources for teachers, especially writing workshop. You can look the books up on Amazon.com, too. They’ll be cheaper through Amazon.
